Stage 1: Polishing

Stage 3: Wet sand + compound + polish.
Stage 1 we normally aim to maximize defect removal without sacrificing clarity, using one type of pad and one type of polish around the whole vehicle. This usually works great for newer vehicles in decent condition or to gloss up neglected vehicles where the owner doesn’t care about having a 100% swirl free finish.
Stage 2 adds a dedicated compounding step for deeper defect removal. This compounding stage will usually leave behind a bit of haze so a 2nd polishing step is used to refine the finish.
Stage 3 can be used for different scenarios that require multiple stages of correction and/or refinement polishing. Some vehicles will require more stages of heavy cutting to remove the deepest defects. Others may be a finicky or soft paint system that requires more final polishing work.
The challenge when comparing between details is there is no standardization and everyone will have a different idea of what is included for a 1, 2, or 3 step correction.
